Mumbai Traffic Advisory Issued Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Visit Today Evening
Mumbai, 12th November 2024: Traffic on key routes linking Mumbai’s western and eastern suburbs, including the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) and Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR), is expected to be slow from Tuesday evening after 5 p.m. due to the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the Maharashtra election campaign.
According to the schedule, Shah will first visit Ghatkopar’s Pant Nagar area at 6:10 p.m., addressing a campaign event at the General Arun Kumar Vaidya Playground. He is expected to proceed to Kandivali’s Mahavir Nagar, reaching Saptah Maidan near Kamla Vihar Sports Club around 7:55 p.m.
Traffic police sources confirmed that Shah will arrive in Mumbai after his campaign in Jharkhand and travel from Mumbai Airport (Juhu) to Ghatkopar via SCLR. He will then continue to Kandivali, passing through JVLR and the Western Express Highway.
The timing of his arrival, however, remains uncertain, which could exacerbate traffic congestion during the evening rush hour. Preparations will begin at 5 p.m., but traffic disruptions will not start until 15 to 30 minutes before the convoy arrives. Traffic will be briefly halted, resuming after the convoy has passed. Authorities estimate it could take another 30 minutes for traffic to return to normal.
The Mumbai Traffic Police posted a traffic advisory on social media, but the lack of specific timing details confused commuters. One user expressed frustration, stating, “Sion Bridge is closed. BKC is jammed. These are the only alternatives, and even they are blocked.” Others echoed concerns, questioning the lack of detailed information, with one asking for more clarity on the timing and duration of the disruptions.
