Mumbai: Daughter of Senior IAS Officers Commits Suicide, Struggled with Academic Anxiety
Mumbai, June 3, 2024: A heartbreaking incident unfolded as a 27-year-old woman, daughter of esteemed Maharashtra cadre IAS officers, took her life by leaping from the 10th floor of a south Mumbai high-rise early Monday morning, as per police statements.
The deceased, identified as Lipi, tragically ended her life at Suruchi apartment near Mantralaya, the state secretariat, at approximately 4 am. Lipi, a law student pursuing her LLB course in Haryana’s Sonipat, reportedly grappled with severe academic anxiety, which ultimately drove her to this fatal decision.
Despite immediate efforts at GT Hospital, Lipi was pronounced dead upon arrival. A suicide note recovered from the scene conveyed her desire for no blame to be assigned for her actions.
Authorities have initiated an investigation, registering the incident as an unnatural death at the Cuffe Parade police station.
Lipi’s father, Vikas Rastogi, holds the position of principal secretary in Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Department, while her mother, Radhika Rastogi, is a distinguished IAS officer within the state government.
This tragedy evokes memories of a similar loss experienced by Maharashtra cadre IAS officers Milind and Manisha Mhaiskar, who mourned the loss of their 18-year-old son in 2017 under similar circumstances.
