Mumbai: Zoological Museum Of Dadar Faces Heat For Unauthorised Construction And MRTP Act Breach, Notice Issued

Dadar, 10th October 2023: Regarding the unauthorised construction of 1,655 square feet, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to a Zoological Museum adjacent to the Mahatma Gandhi Swimming Pool situated near the Shivaji Park area of Dadar.

The last weak, a miniature crocodile, was discovered in Shivaji Park’s Olympic-sized swimming pool, owned by the municipal authority. It was initially claimed to have originated from the local zoo, a claim that was categorically denied by zoo officials. However, it was discovered that the crocodile did in fact come from the zoo after concerned Mumbai Municipal Corporation officials reviewed the CCTV camera footage.

Following the incident, the municipal administration has issued a notice to the Zoological Museum under the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning (MRTP) Act. According to the act, unauthorised construction is completely prohibited on the Zoological Museum premises.

Numerous complaints of snakes in the pool have been filed over the past four to five months. During the early hours of October 3, a two-foot-long new-born crocodile was discovered in the pool. The pup was found during a routine inspection of the pool before it was opened for swimming, which heightened the seriousness of this matter.

The members alleged that these animals may be coming from a zoo that has been opened near this swimming pool. But the owners of this zoo denied this allegation while talking to the media. When the officials of the concerned department of the Municipal Corporation checked the footage from the CCTV cameras there, it was pointed out that the crocodile came from a zoo. After the checking, officials issued show-caused notice to the zoo administration.
