Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja Idol Unveiled: Features 20-Kg Gold Crown Donated by Anant Ambani

Mumbai, 6th September 2024: The much-anticipated first look of Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja was revealed this evening in preparation for Ganesh Chaturthi. Devotees were mesmerized by the idol, which was dressed in maroon and adorned with intricate jewellery. This year’s highlight is a 20-kg gold crown valued at ₹15 crore, reportedly donated by businessman Anant Ambani and the Reliance Foundation.

Anant Ambani has been a supporter of the Lalbaugcha Raja committee for 15 years, participating in various events during Ganeshotsav and attending the annual immersion of the idol at Girgaon Chowpatty Beach. The Ambani family, through the Reliance Foundation, has also contributed to numerous health-related initiatives supported by the Lalbaugcha Raja committee.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the committee faced financial difficulties, Anant Ambani stepped in to provide crucial support. He and the Reliance Foundation donated 24 dialysis machines to aid the committee’s patient support fund. Anant Ambani has also been appointed as an executive advisor to the Lalbaugcha Raja committee.

Lalbaugcha Raja, known as the ‘King of Lalbaug,’ is the most visited Ganesh mandal in Mumbai. Every year, thousands of Mumbaikars, from ordinary citizens to celebrities, line up to view the revered idol.

The Ganeshotsav festival, starting on September 7, is a significant celebration in Maharashtra, marked by ten days of joyous events, and elaborate rituals, and concludes with the grand visarjan, where Ganesh idols are immersed in water with chants and music.
