Ganesh Chaturthi 2024: Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja Draws Massive Crowds as Celebrations Begin

Mumbai, 7th September 2024: Ganesh Chaturthi, a prominent Indian festival, is celebrated with immense devotion and grandeur. Also referred to as Vinayaka Chaturthi, it honours the birth of Lord Ganesha, the deity of obstacles and prosperity. In 2024, the festival will be celebrated from September 7 to September 17, as per the Drik Panchang.

As Ganesh Chaturthi 2024 approaches, devotees are eager to visit the famous Lalbaugcha Raja in Mumbai. Known as the “King of Lalbaug,” this iconic idol, located in Putalabai Chawl, is adorned with elaborate gold ornaments and is revered worldwide. Displayed for 11 days in a grand pandal, it draws thousands of devotees and pilgrims from around the world.

Lalbaugcha Raja is a historic Ganeshotsav that has been celebrated since 1934 at the Lalbaug Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal. The celebration carries deep historical significance, with many believing that Lord Ganesha blesses the event and fulfils the wishes of his devotees.

The pandal sees a wide range of visitors, from influential business figures to celebrities, as well as non-resident Indians, all seeking to worship the majestic idol. The pandal typically has two lines: one for Mukh Darshan and another for Navasachi, where devotees can touch the deity’s feet. The Navasachi line can take up to 20-25 hours to reach the idol.
