Mumbai: Road Collapse in Dadar Causes Car to Get Stuck in Crater; No Injuries Reported

Mumbai, 13th September 2024: On Thursday, a road collapse at a busy intersection in Dadar, central Mumbai, caused a car’s tyre to become lodged in the resulting crater, according to civic officials. The incident, which happened around 11:30 a.m. at Kismat junction on Veer Savarkar Marg in Dadar West, created a crater measuring approximately 3 feet by 5 feet. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Traffic police, assisted by locals, managed to remove the car from the crater, which briefly disrupted traffic in the area. A video of the incident soon appeared on social media.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) attributed the road collapse to a leak in a 66-inch underground pipeline. The leak was discovered after the crater’s depth increased due to ongoing repair work.

Repair efforts on the pipeline were delayed due to the scheduled water supply in the area. The BMC noted that the repairs were eventually carried out in the evening.

The repairs are expected to take some time, and the water supply to the area will be affected during this period, the civic body stated.

Visuals from the scene showed a steel-grey car with its front left tyre stuck in the deep crater. Locals gathered around, capturing the incident on their mobile phones.
