Mumbai: Car Becomes Airborne After Hitting Ramp Near Talasari Flyover On NH-48

Mumbai, 13th December 2024: On Thursday morning, a speeding car became airborne for 25 feet after hitting a ramp near the Talasari flyover on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway (NH-48), where concreting work is underway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

The driver alleged that the ramp, placed for white-topping work, was not visible. However, Sumit Kumar, General Manager (Technical) of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), PIU Thane, refuted the claim. He stated, “We have installed ramps and warning signs such as ‘Go Slow’ and ‘Ramp Ahead.’” He further explained that the work is being conducted lane by lane, with traffic controlled on the remaining lanes.

Since NHAI began cement-concreting NH-48 earlier this year, motorists have raised concerns about insufficient signage, missing dividers, and uneven road sections along the 121-km stretch from Dahisar to Achhad, near the Gujarat border.

Palghar activist Harbans Singh Nanade highlighted that the lane-by-lane white-topping work makes it challenging to spot ramps at night. He also pointed out that in many areas, dividers are missing, and there are noticeable height differences between lanes, adding to the risks for motorists.
