Acid Attack on Newlywed in Thane After Argument Over Honeymoon, Mecca vs. Kashmir

Thane, 20th December 2024: A 29-year-old newlywed man was attacked with acid by his father-in-law in Thane district, Maharashtra, on Wednesday (18th December) following a disagreement over their honeymoon destination.
The victim, Ibad Atik Falke, was hospitalized with severe injuries after his father-in-law, Jaki Gulam Murtaza Khotal, a 65-year-old man, threw acid on him. Ibad had recently married Khotal’s daughter and planned to visit Kashmir for their honeymoon. However, Khotal insisted that they travel to a religious destination abroad, leading to a dispute.
The disagreement escalated over several days, with the father-in-law pressuring the couple to visit Mecca while the newlyweds preferred Kashmir. On Wednesday night, while Ibad was returning home from the Lal Chowki area in Kalyan West, another argument erupted, and Khotal attacked him with acid. The victim screamed in pain as the attacker fled the scene, leaving Ibad seriously injured.
The Bazarpet police have registered a case and launched a search for the absconding accused. Senior Inspector Suresh Singh Gaud noted that the argument over the honeymoon destination seemed to have sparked the attack and that the father-in-law had reportedly been trying to end his daughter’s marriage. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
