Mumbai Records 30°C Maximum Temperature On Sunday After Two Cool Days

Mumbai, 23rd December 2024: After two days of temperatures staying below 30°C, maximum temperatures in Mumbai on Sunday hovered around 30°C. The IMD’s Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4°C, while Santacruz recorded 30.2°C.

Minimum temperatures have risen from 14°C last week to 20°C. Experts attribute this increase to partly cloudy skies and higher humidity levels. On Sunday, the Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum of 20°C, while Colaba observed 21.5°C.

The weather department has forecasted maximum and minimum temperatures of 29°C and 22°C, respectively, for 23rd December. The IMD explained, “Currently, we are experiencing early westerly winds along with strong northerly winds, which have lowered daytime temperatures. However, a system in the Bay of Bengal has increased moisture levels, raising nighttime temperatures.”

The city continues to experience haze, with air quality remaining in the ‘moderate’ category. On Sunday, despite a slight improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI), it remained higher than usual, touching 175. Six of the city’s 23 monitoring stations recorded ‘poor’ air quality, with AQI levels surpassing 200. The worst air quality was noted at Colaba (273), followed by Borivali East (271), Malad West (266), Mazgaon (258), Kandivali West (234), and Deonar (210). None of the city’s stations reported ‘satisfactory’ air quality, defined as an AQI between 50 and 100.
