Nine MMRDA Projects Get Green Light from Mumbai Traffic Police to Resume Construction

Mumbai, 24th December 2024: MUMBAI: Nine major infrastructure and transportation projects under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) are set to receive approval from the Mumbai traffic police to resume construction activities.
The green light for these projects came following a meeting on Monday between MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee and Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare. The discussion led to the clearance of 17 critical permissions across projects such as the Sewri-Worli Connector and several metro expansions, according to an MMRDA statement.
For the Mumbai Metro 2B, four approvals are required: an extension of traffic permission for the entire line (D N Nagar to Mandale), a height gauge near the Milan Subway junction, and traffic diversion permissions at Bandra on the Western Express Highway and at the Bandra metro station on S V Road.
Mumbai Metro 6 also requires four approvals: traffic diversion at IIT Powai, extension of traffic permissions for the Mahakali Caves-to-Powai Lake section, traffic diversion at Saki Vihar to Rambaug, and permission for a junction along the corridor.
The Sewri-Worli elevated connector project needs permissions for shifting a signal pole on Acharya Donde Marg, road closures during girder launches, and the closure of Elphinstone Road.
Additional approvals are awaited for a flyover between Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road and Poonam Nagar, an extension of Mumbai Metro 7A permissions, work on a vehicular underpass at Jogeshwari’s Janta Colony, and the construction of an elevated corridor on the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road.
These permissions have been pending for several months, with some delays lasting over six months, partly due to the two elections held in 2024.
MMRDA highlighted that these granted permissions will ensure the uninterrupted progress of critical infrastructure projects, accelerating the development of Mumbai’s public transportation network.
