Technical Glitch Disrupts Mumbai Metro Services, Thousands of Commuters Delayed

Mumbai, 16th June 2025: A major technical glitch on the Mumbai Metro’s Line 1 caused significant delays for thousands of commuters during peak hours on Monday morning. The disruption, which began around 8:15 AM, halted train movement between Ghatkopar and Versova for over an hour, leaving passengers stranded on platforms and inside stalled trains.
According to Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd. (MMOPL), the issue was traced to a signalling fault near the Marol Naka station. “Our technical teams responded immediately and worked to restore normal services as quickly as possible,” a spokesperson said in an official statement. Full operations resumed by 9:30 AM, but residual delays continued throughout the morning rush.
Commuters expressed frustration on social media, with many reporting overcrowded platforms and a lack of timely updates. “There were no clear announcements. People were confused and anxious,” said Priya Desai, a regular commuter from Andheri.
The Mumbai Metro authority apologised for the inconvenience and assured the public that a detailed investigation is underway. “We regret the hardship caused to our passengers and are taking steps to prevent such incidents in the future,” the MMOPL spokesperson added.
This is the second major disruption on Mumbai Metro’s Line 1 in the past three months, raising concerns about the reliability of the city’s rapid transit system. Transport experts have called for urgent upgrades to the signalling and communication infrastructure to ensure smoother operations.
