Tension Erupts in Mazgaon During Ganpati Arrival Procession After Eggs Allegedly Thrown
Mazgaon, 24th August 2026: Tension erupted in Mumbai’s Mazgaon area during the arrival procession of the Mazgaon Cha Morya Ganpati Mandal after eggs were allegedly thrown at the procession from a nearby building.
According to the Ganpati mandal, the incident took place while the Ganpati Aagaman procession was passing through the area. A building located around 30 to 40 metres from the pandal was allegedly involved in the incident, with eggs reportedly being thrown towards the procession.
The alleged incident angered devotees and led to a tense situation in the area. An altercation reportedly broke out between two groups following the incident, prompting police to rush to the spot.
Vivek Rane, Deputy Secretary of the ‘Mazgaon Cha Morya Ganpati’ Mandal, condemned the incident and demanded strict action against those responsible.
“While we were organising the Ganpati Aagaman procession, some anti-social elements from a nearby building, located around 30 to 40 metres from the pandal, allegedly threw eggs at the procession. This is highly objectionable and has hurt the sentiments of devotees. We demand strict action against those responsible and urge the authorities to identify them at the earliest,” Rane said.
Following the incident, devotees temporarily halted the Ganpati idol and demanded action against those allegedly involved. Religious songs were played at the spot, while slogans including “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” were also raised.
Police are expected to examine CCTV footage from the surrounding area and other available evidence to identify the person or persons involved. The exact circumstances and motive behind the alleged egg-throwing incident have not yet been officially established.
Police intervention helped bring the situation under control, while further investigation into the incident is underway.
