Mumbai-Sawantwadi Express: New Daily Train To Connect CSMT With South Konkan From Today

Mumbai, 3rd September 2026: A new daily Express train between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Sawantwadi Road is set to improve direct rail connectivity between Mumbai and South Konkan, particularly for passengers travelling to Sindhudurg district.

The new service will connect Mumbai with key destinations including Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road. The train is expected to benefit passengers travelling for work, education, business and tourism.

The inaugural service will be flagged off from CSMT at 12.50 pm on Thursday, September 3. The inaugural special, numbered 01001, will reach Sawantwadi Road at 2 am the following day. The regular daily service will operate as Train No. 15087 from CSMT to Sawantwadi Road and Train No. 15088 in the return direction.

The 510-km route will have stoppages at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Vilavade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road.

The train will have a mix of AC, sleeper and general coaches. Its composition includes one AC First Class coach, two AC 2-tier coaches, three AC 3-tier coaches, four sleeper coaches and four general second-class coaches, along with a second seating-cum-guard’s brake van and a generator van.

The introduction of the service addresses the long-standing demand for a direct daily rail connection between Mumbai and South Konkan. At present, passengers travelling towards destinations such as Kankavli, Kudal and Sawantwadi rely on existing Konkan-bound services from Mumbai.

Central Railway has also said that the new service could help reduce crowding on other Konkan-bound trains operating from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Dadar.

The train is also expected to make travel to popular destinations in the region, including Sawantwadi, Amboli and Tarkarli, more accessible for passengers from Mumbai. The connectivity could also support travel towards the Goa border and surrounding tourism destinations.

However, while the inaugural service details have been announced, Central Railway has said that the timings and schedule for the regular daily service will be notified separately.

With the new CSMT-Sawantwadi Road Express, passengers from Mumbai will have another direct rail option to South Konkan, with stops across major towns in the region. The service is expected to provide an additional travel option for residents, workers, students, traders and tourists travelling between Mumbai and Sindhudurg.
