Fake PMO Official and Armed ‘Bodyguard’ Detained at Mumbai Venue Ahead of PM Modi’s Event

Mumbai, 8th September 2026: A 24-year-old man allegedly posing as an official of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and his armed ‘bodyguard’ were detained at a high-security venue in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) on Tuesday, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the city.

The incident took place at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), where the Prime Minister was scheduled to attend an event later in the evening. Security personnel deployed at the venue intercepted the duo after their behaviour reportedly raised suspicion.

According to police officials, the 24-year-old man allegedly claimed to be associated with the Prime Minister’s Office and managed to gain entry into the high-security premises. However, security personnel became suspicious and stopped the duo for verification.

During questioning, the man was reportedly unable to produce valid credentials supporting his claim of being a PMO official. His companion, who was accompanying him as a ‘bodyguard’, was also found carrying a firearm.

The discovery of the weapon at the venue, which had been placed under heightened security due to the Prime Minister’s scheduled presence, prompted immediate action by the security personnel and police.

Both individuals were detained and subsequently handed over to Mumbai Police for further questioning. A police official said the firearm was recovered from the so-called bodyguard.

The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) and local police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Authorities are probing the identity of the two individuals, the circumstances under which the 24-year-old gained access to the venue, and the purpose behind allegedly posing as a PMO official.

Investigators are also examining the firearm recovered from the bodyguard and verifying whether it was legally possessed. Police have not yet disclosed the identities of either of the detained individuals.

The incident has raised serious security concerns as it occurred at a venue associated with a high-profile event attended by the Prime Minister. Security at the NMACC and surrounding areas in BKC had already been significantly tightened in view of Prime Minister Modi’s visit.

Officials are now investigating whether the duo acted independently or if others were involved in facilitating their entry into the high-security premises. Further details are expected to emerge following the completion of the interrogation and preliminary investigation.
