Mumbai: Water Pipe Bursts Near Mulund Jakat Nayak, Repair Work Underway

Mumbai, 28th March 2023: A major water channel that supplies water to the city and eastern suburbs has burst near the Mulund Jakat canal. This incident took place on Monday afternoon, due to which high water jets shot out from the water channel. A large amount of water has been wasted, and the water engineering department of the municipality has taken up the repair work. Due to this incident, a 15 per cent water cut has been immediately implemented in the city and eastern suburbs till 10 pm on Tuesday.

The 2,345 mm diameter ‘Mumbai-2’ water channel of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation at Hariom Nagar in the Mulund Jakat Naka area was hit while the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) was working on the box culvert for rainwater drainage on the Eastern Expressway. Due to this, the water channel burst and water leakage started on a large scale. The work of repairing the leak in this water channel which carries water from the Pise-Panjrapur complex has been taken up immediately.

During this period, i.e. from 10 pm on Monday, 27th March, to 10 pm on Wednesday, 29th March 2023, there will be a 15 per cent water cut in most areas of eastern suburbs and city division. During this period, water supply will be cut in Mulund, Bhandup, Bhandup, Nahoor, Kanjurmarg, East Division at Vikhroli, Ghatkopar (East) and (West) Division, Kurla (East) Division, Deonar, Mankhurd, Chembur, and Govandi. Also, the water supply will be cut in Churchgate, Colaba, Dongri, Mazgaon, Mashid Bandar, Byculla, Lalbagh, Paral, Naigaon, and Wadala.
