MHADA: Konkan Board Receives Over 21,000 Applications for Housing Lottery Amid Rule Changes

Mumbai, 11th April 2023: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s (MHADA) Konkan board has seen some response to the registration, application sale, and acceptance process of its 4,654 houses (including 14 plots).

To attract more applicants, the deadline for accepting applications has been extended and the rules for filling out applications have been changed. The Board’s efforts seem to be paying off as 21,279 people have submitted applications with the deposit amount until 6:00 pm on Monday (10th April).

Under the new lottery process, aspirants must submit the required documents along with the application form, and their eligibility will be determined before the draw. Unfortunately, many people have not been able to provide documents such as residence certificates, income tax returns, income certificates, caste verification certificates, and others, resulting in many aspirants being unable to fill out the application form. As a result, the draw has received a poor response, with only 21,279 applications submitted for 4,654 houses, while a few thousand houses of Konkan Board have received lakhs of applications.

However, by extending the deadline to 19th April for applying and 21st of April for submitting the application along with the deposit amount and changing some rules, the number of applications submitted by the Konkan Board has surpassed 21,000. It was not possible for the Board to even reach the mark of 20,000 without the deadline extension.

While the application deadline was 10th April according to the proposed lottery program, the deadline for applying along with the deposit amount is now 12th April. The Board expects the number of submitted applications to reach at least 30,000 due to the extension of the deadline.
Despite some relaxation in the rules for filling out the application and the deadline extension, the senior officials of Konkan Board reported that the response is much less than expected.
