Navi Mumbai: Naina CIDCO Project Addresses Farmers’ Demands for Urban Planning and Infrastructure in Panvel

Panvel, 27th December 2023: The NAINA CIDCO project in Panvel is making strides in addressing the demands of farmers affected by the development initiative. Key issues such as the implementation of the Urban Planning Integrated Development Control and Promotion Regulation (UDCPR), water planning, electricity provisions, and village development plans have come to the forefront.
The affected farmers had long advocated for the implementation of UDCPR in Naina, similar to its application in rural areas across the state. Chief Planner of Naina, Ravindra Kumar Mankar, clarified that provisions aligning with farmers’ interests have been incorporated into the Naina Authority rather than adhering strictly to UDCPR. Notably, 40 per cent of farmers in the Naina project have contributed to developing roads with a maximum width of 15 meters to each plot, addressing connectivity challenges.
CIDCO has undertaken water planning in the Naina area, with water supply sourced from the upcoming Kondhane dam. While the dam’s construction is expected to take five to six years, CIDCO, in the interim, is prepared to provide drinking water through its water supply scheme. Additionally, plans are in place to reserve plots for future electricity provisions, with these plots intended for the MSEDCL. Notably, farmers who lose electricity lines in the Naina Authority will receive 40 per cent developed plots, demonstrating a commitment to equitable compensation.
MLA Prashant Thakur’s inquiry about infrastructure facilities for Naina-affected villages prompted Guardian Minister Uday Samant to direct the CIDCO board. In response, a letter was sent to all villages, urging them to submit demand letters specifying the facilities they require. The development plan for each village will be tailored to meet these demands, encompassing sewers, roads, drinking water facilities, playgrounds, gardens, plots for schools, and parking lots.
The NAINA CIDCO project’s responsiveness to farmers’ concerns showcases a commitment to inclusive development, with a focus on both urban planning and comprehensive infrastructure to uplift the affected communities in Panvel.
