BEST and Metro Boost Services to Handle Ganeshotsav Traffic Surge in Mumbai

Mumbai, 6th September 2024: To handle the increased demand during the 10-day Ganeshotsav celebrations, both BEST and Metro services will provide additional services starting September 7.
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) will introduce 24 extra buses for nighttime operations from 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. These buses will serve nine routes, including Worli to Kalachowki, Dr M. Iqbal Check (Sir JJ Hospital) to Oshiwara Depot, Electric House to Santacruz Depot, and Jijamata Udyan to Shivaji Nagar Terminal, among others.
In a similar effort, Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL) will boost services on Lines 2A and 7, which run from Dahisar to Andheri. Beginning September 11, 20 additional trips will be added at major Metro stations.
MMMOCL managing director Rubal Agarwal noted that these enhancements aim to reduce congestion and ensure safe travel for festival attendees. Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, commissioner of MMRDA and chairman of MMMOCL, emphasized that the increased services are meant to accommodate the surge in demand during the festival.
The last Metro trains from Andheri (West) and Gundavali terminals will run 30 minutes later, with additional services scheduled at 11:15 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. from both terminals. Extended services will also be available between Gundavali and Dahisar (East) and Andheri (West) and Dahisar (East), providing a total of 20 extra trips at key stations.
