Bomb Threat Sent To RBI Via Russian Email, Case Registered By Mumbai Police

Mumbai, 13th December 2024: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received its second bomb threat within a month on Friday, delivered via email in Russian to the bank’s official website.
Following a complaint from the RBI, Mumbai Police initiated an investigation and registered a case against an unidentified individual at the Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station.
According to the Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner of Police, the email contained a warning to blow up the bank. Authorities are examining the case and working to trace the sender’s identity.
Investigators are also exploring whether a VPN was used to obscure the IP address and location of the sender, as suggested by sources.
This threat coincides with Sanjay Malhotra’s recent appointment as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank, succeeding Shaktikanta Das after his six-year tenure. Malhotra, an IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, was appointed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a related incident, six schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email on Friday morning, leading to extensive searches. Similar emails were sent to 44 schools on December 9, which were later declared hoaxes.
