CJP Launches Nationwide Protest Campaign in Mumbai, Demands Removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Mumbai, 1st October 2026: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is set to launch a nationwide protest campaign in Mumbai on October 2, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, suspension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and greater independence and transparency in the functioning of the Election Commission.

The first protest will be held at 4 pm at Gate No. 6 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park in Mumbai. The organisation has appealed to citizens to participate in the demonstration, which it said will mark the beginning of a series of protests planned across the country throughout October.

CJP National Convenor and Founder Abhijit Dipke said the campaign will culminate in a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

“There is no trust left now. In a democracy, the people decide who should form the government. But how is the country being governed now? The government itself is deciding who the voters will be. What kind of democracy is this?” Dipke said.

The organisation has put forward three key demands. It has called for the removal and resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with an inquiry and criminal action against him. It has also demanded that the SIR of electoral rolls be suspended and that the 2025 electoral roll be used for elections.

The third demand is for reforms to make the appointment process of Election Commissioners more independent and transparent, including participation from civil society.

CJP has alleged that election institutions are being misused for political gains and said that the independence of the Election Commission will remain the central focus of its campaign. These are allegations and demands made by the organisation and are not established findings of wrongdoing.

Asked whether the organisation would seek support from other political parties, Dipke said the campaign would remain independent.

“We are not taking help from any political party. We are a pressure group and want to keep this movement independent,” he said.

The press conference was attended by Ajinkya Shinde, National Organisation In-charge; Afreen Nawaz, National Secretary; and Meher, National Spokesperson.

The Mumbai protest is scheduled for October 2 at 4 pm at Gate No. 6, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park.
