CM Eknath Shinde Inaugurates 25 NMMC Projects and 8 CIDCO Initiatives in Navi Mumbai Ahead of Elections
Navi Mumbai, 12th October 2024: In preparation for the upcoming elections, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated approximately 25 development projects by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and eight significant initiatives by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) on Friday at the CIDCO Exhibition Centre in Vashi.
During the event, NMMC Municipal Commissioner Kailash Shinde and CIDCO Managing Director Vijay Singhal presented an overview of the upcoming projects. The CIDCO initiatives include the construction of a nine-story Maharashtra Bhavan building, budgeted at Rs 127 crore, on a 4,000-square-meter site in Vashi. Other notable projects encompass infrastructure development worth Rs 5,000 crore under the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) Town Planning Schemes, the redevelopment of a cluster of buildings under the Thane Urban Renewal Scheme, and the construction of a 4,500-seat viewing gallery on an international standard football ground at the Centre of Excellence in Kharghar. Additionally, 67,000 housing units are to be built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with keys distributed for about 26,000 completed units. Other projects include expanding the International Kharghar Valley Golf Course from nine to eighteen holes, rehabilitation efforts for landslide-affected Irshalwadi village, and groundbreaking for the Western Peripheral Road linked to the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
On the NMMC’s side, 25 projects with a combined budget of Rs 410 crore were launched, including a multilevel parking facility in Belapur, markets, parking lots, educational institutions, and upgraded medical facilities. Commissioner Kailash Shinde also mentioned plans to enhance cancer care by increasing the number of screening centres in the city and establishing a modular operating theatre. “The corporation has become the first organization to establish a textile recycling unit,” Shinde noted, highlighting its inclusion among the 25 projects.
CIDCO Managing Director Singhal described the day as historic, emphasizing the successful landing of an aircraft at NMIA alongside the formal approval of numerous development initiatives benefiting citizens. All projects initiated by NMMC and CIDCO were inaugurated remotely by Chief Minister Shinde.
“If the Navi Mumbai airport is set to alleviate air traffic in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the other initiatives by NMMC and CIDCO will position the state as a powerhouse of development. Mumbai will evolve into the Fintech capital. The MMR region has immense potential, enabling us to significantly contribute to the Prime Minister’s vision of making India a $1 trillion economy,” CM Shinde stated.
