Decomposed Body of 60-Year-Old Found in Thane Apartment; Cause of Death Under Investigation

Mumbai, 6th August 2024: A 60-year-old man, who was reportedly dealing with mental health issues, was found deceased in an apartment in Thane city shortly after midnight on Tuesday, according to officials. The exact time and cause of death remain undetermined as the police continue their investigation, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell.
At 12:26 am, the local fire station received a report about a body discovered in a flat in the Hans Nagar area near Siddeshwar Talao. Firefighters and members of the regional disaster management team promptly responded and found the decomposed body in the apartment, which had been opened by neighbours.
The neighbours, who had noticed a foul odour coming from the flat, forcibly entered the apartment to investigate. The deceased was later identified as a mental health patient based on information from the neighbours.
The Naupada police arrived at the scene shortly after and sent the body to a government hospital for a postmortem examination. They have registered the incident as an accidental death while the investigation continues.
