Engineer Commits Suicide on Mumbai Trans Harbour Link: Financial Struggles Cited

Mumbai, 26th July 2024: On a bustling Wednesday afternoon, a Tata Nexon came to a halt on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. The 38-year-old driver exited the vehicle, climbed over the bridge’s railing, and jumped to his death.
CCTV footage reveals that K Shriniwas, an engineer from Dombivli, drove to the Nhava Sheva end of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, also known as Atal Setu, around 12:30 pm and subsequently took his own life.
Family members have disclosed that Shriniwas had been facing severe financial difficulties, which they believe led to his tragic decision, according to PTI. The police noted that Shriniwas had previously attempted suicide by ingesting a floor cleaner while working in Kuwait in 2023.
In the hours preceding the incident, Shriniwas departed from his home around 11:30 pm the night before. Before heading to the bridge, he made calls to his wife and four-year-old daughter.
Following the incident, Navi Mumbai Police, along with Atal Setu rescue teams, coastal police, and local fishermen, have initiated a search operation. Efforts to recover Shriniwas’s body are ongoing.
