Fatal Collision on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Leaves Five Warkaris Dead, Dozens Injured
Mumbai, 16th July 2024: An incident occurred on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway when a bus collided with a tractor, resulting in a devastating outcome that claimed five lives and left over 30 others injured. This incident has sparked serious concerns regarding highway safety.
According to police reports, the victims were Warkaris, devotees of Lord Vitthal, travelling from their hometown of Dombivli near Mumbai to Pandharpur for the Ashadhi Ekadashi celebrations. Warkaris are known for their religious pilgrimages to sacred places, particularly to Pandharpur, which holds significant religious importance for followers of Lord Vitthal in Maharashtra.
Following the collision with the tractor, the bus crashed through a barrier on the expressway and plummeted into a 20-foot-deep gorge. DCP Vivek Pansare informed media outlets that the bus was carrying a group of 42 passengers from Dombivli en route to Pandharpur when the accident occurred near Adne village. Immediate medical assistance was provided to the injured, with three individuals reported to be in serious condition.
