Five Dead After Falling from Crowded Local Train Near Mumbra Station

Mumbai, 9th June 2025: In a tragic incident near Mumbra railway station, five passengers lost their lives and three others were critically injured after falling from a crowded local train on Monday morning. The incident occurred between Diva and Mumbra stations when the Kasara-CSMT bound suburban train was passing alongside the Lucknow-bound Pushpak Express.

According to eyewitnesses, due to excessive overcrowding, several passengers were standing precariously at the doors of the local train. As the Pushpak Express passed closely on an adjacent track, the passengers’ bags and bodies rubbed against the express train, causing at least eight of them to fall onto the tracks. The impact proved fatal for five, while three are currently battling for their lives at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Thane.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) officials rushed to the spot after being alerted by fellow commuters. Blood was seen on the tracks near the accident site, highlighting the severity of the collision.

Authorities clarified that no passengers aboard the Pushpak Express were injured and that the express train was not directly responsible for the accident. The incident primarily stemmed from the severe overcrowding in the local train and the dangerously close passage of the two trains.

This tragic accident has once again raised questions about the safety of suburban train travel in Mumbai, especially during peak hours. Officials have initiated an investigation and are reviewing crowd management and train scheduling in the section.

While the names of the deceased are yet to be released, railway authorities have urged commuters to avoid standing on footboards during peak traffic and promised steps to improve passenger safety.
