Heavy Rain Triggers Tragic Incidents of Falling Trees in Mumbai’s Goregaon West

Mumbai, 28th June 2023: The relentless downpour that has engulfed Mumbai since early morning has caused havoc in the city, with two fatal incidents involving falling trees being reported within a single day. The latest tragedy occurred in the MG Road area of Goregaon West, where a 30-year-old man lost his life when a tree crashed onto his house.
The victim has been identified as Premlal Nirmal, a resident of house B/22A in Mitha Nagar Municipal Colony. Around noon, as powerful winds were blowing in the region, a nearby standing tree collapsed onto his house, leaving him critically injured. Seeing the incident, local residents rushed to his aid and promptly transported him to nearby Prarthana Hospita. Tragically, the youth lost his life before the treatment.
Local authorities have classified the incident as an accidental death, prompting the Goregaon police to initiate a thorough investigation. The fallen tree has been attributed to the intense rain and strong winds that have been engulfing the region throughout the day. This is the second occurrence of this nature within a day, underscoring the urgency of addressing the dangers posed by ageing trees during extreme weather conditions.
Earlier in the day, another unfortunate incident claimed the life of 33-year-old Kaushal Mahendra Joshi in the Mameledar Wadi area of Malad West. The heavy rainfall had caused an old tree to collapse, fatally injuring Joshi.
