Heavy Rains Likely in Mumbai, Yellow Alert Issued: IMD
Mumbai, 6th April 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad, forecasting heavy rain and cloudy skies across parts of the city and its suburbs on Monday. The alert signals the possibility of weather-related disruptions and urges residents to remain cautious.
According to IMD officials, Mumbai is expected to remain overcast throughout the day, with heavy showers likely in the afternoon. Wind speeds may reach 30–40 km/h, accompanied by a chance of thunderstorms. Similar weather patterns are expected in adjoining districts such as Thane, Palghar, and Raigad.
The minimum temperature has dipped slightly in parts of Maharashtra, owing to favourable conditions for thunderstorm activity. Thunderstorms with gusty winds are also anticipated in north Maharashtra today.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted across Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. This shift in weather is attributed to an active low-pressure system extending from Madhya Pradesh through Marathwada and Telangana to southern Karnataka. Moisture-laden northerly winds, blowing at speeds of up to 50 km/h across most regions of Maharashtra—except Vidarbha—are influencing the atmospheric conditions.
In light of the alert, the IMD has advised citizens to stay updated through official weather bulletins and take precautions, particularly during periods of intense rainfall or thunderstorms.
Several districts—including Pune, Satara, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Amravati, Nagpur, and Gadchiroli—are also expected to experience rainfall and thunderstorm activity. Cloudy conditions and fluctuating temperatures are likely to persist across the state throughout the day.
Residents are advised to plan their travel accordingly and remain indoors during heavy spells of rain as a safety measure.
