Heavy Rains Return to Mumbai and Surrounding Areas: Schools Declared Holiday in Raigad
Mumbai, 24th July 2023: Mumbai and several parts of the Maharashtra state have been witnessing heavy rainfall since last week, with a resurgence of downpours in Mumbai city and suburbs on Sunday night. The Meteorological Department reported significant rain in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ghat regions over the past few days.
On Sunday night, some parts of Mumbai received 40 to 50 millimeters of rain within a mere 3 hours. The Colaba center of the Meteorological Department recorded 44.6 mm of rain from 8 am on Sunday to 8 am on Monday, with an additional 13.9 mm by 8.30 pm on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Santacruz center recorded 101.5 mm of rain, with 20.1 mm by 8.30 pm on Sunday. The Meteorological Department forecasts partly cloudy weather on Monday, with a possibility of heavy rain in certain areas of Mumbai.
As a precautionary measure, schools in Raigad district have been declared a holiday on Monday, given the prediction of heavy to very heavy rain by the Meteorological Department for the district. In response to this forecast, school authorities made the announcement on Sunday evening to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
