Illegal Immigration Racket Busted: Mumbai Police Arrests Man for Trafficking Bangladeshi Nationals

Mumbai, 10th December 2023: The Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police has successfully dismantled an illegal immigration racket, leading to the arrest of a 26-year-old man involved in illegally bringing Bangladeshi nationals to Mumbai for employment. The accused, identified as Akram Noor Navi Shaikh, along with his accomplice, was charging Rs 20,000 per person for facilitating illegal entry and employment. The investigation also revealed that the proceeds from these illicit activities were being unlawfully sent back to Bangladesh.

Akram Noor Navi Shaikh, a 26-year-old native of Narottampur, Chittagong State, Bangladesh, was residing in the Wadala area of Mumbai. The accused himself had entered India illegally from Bangladesh and was actively involved in orchestrating the illegal migration of Bangladeshi citizens.

Akram, in collaboration with his associate Shafiq, was responsible for bringing Bangladeshi nationals to Mumbai and securing employment opportunities for them. Investigations exposed the modus operandi, where each person was charged Rs. 20,000 for the entire process. Furthermore, Akram was found to be involved in facilitating the transfer of money earned by Bangladeshi citizens in India back to Bangladesh, with a commission.

The Crime Branch received crucial information about Akram’s presence near the Sewri Police Station. Utilizing a ruse involving the pretext of sending money to Bangladesh, Akram was contacted and subsequently arrested when he arrived at Sewri.

A search operation conducted at Akram’s residence, situated behind Barkat Ali Dargah in Wadala, resulted in the recovery of two mobile phones, cash, and a flight ticket from Kolkata to Mumbai. Examination of the accused’s mobile phone unveiled numerous contacts with Bangladeshi citizens, further unravelling the extent of the illegal network.

The Mumbai Police is continuing its investigation into the matter to apprehend any remaining individuals involved in this illegal immigration racket. The arrested accused, Akram Noor Navi Shaikh, will face charges related to human trafficking, illegal immigration, and facilitating unlawful financial transactions.
