Inauguration of CCTV System and Computer Training Center for Inmates at Mumbai Central Jail

Mumbai, 12th July 2024: A significant upgrade in prison security and inmate rehabilitation was marked yesterday at Mumbai Central Jail with the installation of 418 CCTV cameras and the inauguration of a computer training center.

Amitabh Gupta, Additional Director General of Police and Inspector General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Maharashtra State, spearheaded the initiative in collaboration with the Satsang Foundation, a charitable organization.

Under the leadership of Gupta, the prison department has initiated various innovative activities across the state’s prisons. The recent installation of CCTV cameras is part of a broader strategy to enhance security measures and ensure continuous surveillance of inmates. The 418 cameras installed at Mumbai Central Jail are expected to significantly bolster the prison’s security system.

During the inauguration, inmates who demonstrated remarkable conduct were honored with certificates of appreciation. This recognition was personally handed out by the distinguished guests, highlighting the importance of positive behavior and rehabilitation within the prison system.

Dhanesh Zukar, Executive Officer of Satsang Foundation, shared details about the vocational training programs launched by his organization. He encouraged inmates to actively participate and take advantage of these opportunities to improve their skills and prospects for reintegration into society.

Yogesh Desai, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, South Division, Mumbai, emphasized the importance of utilizing the facilities provided and ensuring they are not misused. His remarks underscored the administration’s commitment to maintaining order and fostering an environment conducive to rehabilitation.

Gupta, in his address to the inmates, urged them to make the most of the facilities provided by the administration. He also commended the Superintendent of Prisons for recognizing and honoring inmates for their exemplary behavior and contributions within the prison.

The program concluded with remarks from Jail Superintendent Harshad Ahirrao, who expressed gratitude for the numerous improvements implemented since Gupta took charge. Facilities such as the Smart Card telephone, e-interview systems, washing machines, smart TVs, and water coolers have all been introduced to enhance the quality of life for inmates.
