Indian Shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar Sets New World Record

Bhopal, 27 Feb 2024: In a stunning display of skill and precision, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, an Olympic standout, has shattered the existing world record in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event. Tomar achieved this remarkable feat during India’s national shooting trials held at the MP State Shooting Academy ranges in Bhopal.

Tomar’s incredible performance saw him score an exceptional 466.4 points in the final, surpassing the previous world record of 461.1 held by Czech shooter Jiri Privratsky. Niraj Kumar secured the second position with a commendable score of 460.9, while Goldie Gurjar finished third with 445.6 points.

The trials, organized by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), featured Group A shooters, including top-ranked marksmen and markswomen from the country.

Tomar’s stellar achievement underscores his dominance in the 50m rifle 3 positions event, where he also leads the NRAI’s Qualification Ranking for the Olympic Games (QROG) list. His outstanding performance positions him as a frontrunner for India’s shooting contingent at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The upcoming final selection trials for the Paris Olympics will see the top five Indian shooters, based on national rankings as of February 29, vying for coveted spots. India has already secured an impressive 19 out of 24 quotas in shooting for the Summer Games.

In addition to Tomar’s historic achievement, R Narmada Nithin clinched victory in the fourth trial for the women’s 10m air rifle, while Neha emerged triumphant in the third trial of the women’s 25m pistol with a score of 251.8. Notably, Neha’s exceptional performance saw her outshine seasoned opponents, including Asian Games medallist Ashi Chouksey and Nisha Kanwar.

Neha’s dominance continued in the women’s 25m pistol event, where she secured the crown with 31 hits in the final. Rahi Sarnobat and Anisa Sayyed claimed the second and third positions, respectively, with notable performances.

The achievements of these talented shooters highlight India’s prowess and depth in the sport of shooting, further solidifying its status as a powerhouse in international competitions.
