Maharera Cancels Registration of 107 Housing Projects In Maharashtra

Mumbai, 25th June 2023: The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (Maharera) has taken action to cancel the registration of 107 housing projects across the state. The list of these projects has been made available on the official Maharera website, and concerned parties are granted a deadline of July 7 to file objections. Furthermore, the deadline for objections pertaining to the previous 88 projects has been extended from June 17 to July 7. Maharera has also announced that objections regarding 19 additional projects can be registered until the same date.
Under Maharera regulations, registration is mandatory for all new housing projects, and developers are required to complete the projects within the specified timeframe. The RERA Act provides for deregistration of the project if the developer does not complete the project in time or the registration expires. Now the Maharera, through a circular on February 10, has decided to cancel the registration of the project, which is impractical and can never be completed. The implementation of this decision has now started, and accordingly, in the first phase, Maharera has decided to cancel the registration of 88 such projects. These include projects that could not be completed due to zero registration, non-availability of funds, projects being financially unviable, court cases, family disputes, new government notifications regarding planning, and so on.
Maharera had appealed to register objections until June 17 to cancel the registration of 88 such projects. However, no objection was registered within the prescribed period. Therefore, Maharera has decided to give another opportunity to the customers. Accordingly, this deadline has now been changed to July 7. At the same time, after finding 19 more such projects, Maharera has decided to cancel their registration as well. For this, objections have been requested to be registered on the mail secy@maharera.mahaonline.gov.in till July 7.
Of the total 107 projects, the highest number of projects to be deregistered are from Pune. As many as 41 projects in Pune are in this list. Apart from that, the registration of 16 projects in Raigad and 12 in Thane will be cancelled. Palghar 6, Mumbai Suburb 5, Mumbai City 4, Sindhudurg, Parbhani, and Nashik 3 each; Nagpur, Ch. Sambhajinagar, and Satara 02 each; and Kolhapur, Nanded, Latur, Ratnagiri, Solapur, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli each have one project in this list.
