Modi Set to Launch Key Mumbai Projects, Including Thane-Borivali Tunnel
 
                Mumbai, 13th July 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Mumbai, Maharashtra on Saturday, July 13, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for developmental projects valued at ₹29,400 crore. The event will take place at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, followed by a visit to the Indian News Service (INS) Secretariat at Bandra Kurla Complex.
During his visit, PM Modi will dedicate new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and the extension of platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The schedule and projects were announced via an official government release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
PM Modi’s Mumbai Visit: Full Schedule
At 5:30 pm, PM Narendra Modi will participate in a function at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, launching projects aimed at enhancing transportation connectivity in Mumbai. These include initiatives for railways, roads, and port development. Additionally, he will inaugurate the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, aimed at skill enhancement in Mumbai.
Following this, at 7 pm, Modi will inaugurate the new INS Towers at the Indian News Service Secretariat in Bandra Kurla Complex, providing new office space for INS employees, central to Mumbai’s newspaper network.
Key Projects to be Launched
1. Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project: Valued at ₹16,600 crores, this project includes tube tunnels under Sanjay Gandhi National Park, connecting Western Express Highway at Borivali to Ghodbunder Road in Thane, reducing travel time by 12 kilometres and saving one hour.
2. Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project: Valued at over ₹6,300 crore, this project will connect the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, reducing travel time from 75 minutes to 25 minutes.
3. Kalyan Yard Remodeling Project: This project will segregate suburban and long-distance train traffic in Mumbai, enhancing punctuality and operational efficiency.
4. Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal: Located in Navi Mumbai, this terminal will enhance its capacity for handling cement and other commodities, creating employment opportunities in the region.
Additional Developments
The new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extended platforms at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) will accommodate more trains, facilitating the operation of 24-coach trains and increasing ridership.
Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana
With an outlay of ₹5,600 crore, this initiative aims to address youth unemployment by providing skill enhancement opportunities to individuals aged 18 to 30 years.
