Mumbai: 1,000 Homes Destroyed In Fire At Anand Nagar Slum, One Death Registered

Mumbai, 14th March 2023: On Monday, a fire at the Anand Nagar slum in Appa Pada, Malad East, destroyed approximately 1,000 homes and claimed one life, according to officials. Rescue efforts continued well into the night. Due to the tight roadways, firefighters had difficulty getting to the forestland where the fire started.
According to officials, the body was taken to the HBT Trauma Care Center, and a search operation is already underway to look for any injured or missing people.
Witnesses reported in the middle of the day that late in the afternoon, residents of slums who live adjacent to forestland heard several cylinder bursts and fled from their homes. By seven pm, the fire crew had put out the flames and had begun cooling operations.
Around 10,000 square metres, 800 to 1,000 cottages were spared from the fire. There have been 15 to 20-cylinder explosions.
Around 4.45 p.m., the fire was reported, but because of the area’s terrain and narrow alleys, the fire department had a difficult time getting to the scene. At 5:15 p.m., authorities deemed it a level-three fire, and additional fire engines flocked to the scene.
