Mumbai: Andheri RTO’s Vacant Land Encroached Upon, Residents Fear Rise In Criminal Activities As Authorities Turn A Blind Eye
Mumbai, 17th June 2023: The vacant land owned by the Andheri Regional Transport Office (RTO) has become a hotspot for illegal activities, leaving local residents concerned about the potential for serious crimes to take place in the future. Over 50 shacks have been erected on the site, hosting illicit brewing, open drinking parties, and gambling. Residents of the area alleged that underage boys and girls between the ages of 16 and 25 come here in luxury cars like Audi, Range Rover, and BMW as night falls.
The residents of the Vatsalya building, located in close proximity to the encroached land, have repeatedly expressed their concerns to the police administration and the Andheri RTO department, which own the property. However, no action has been taken so far, fueling apprehensions among the locals.
The Federation of Co-operative Housing Societies and Ekta Association have expressed the possibility of serious crime at this place through both verbal and written complaints to the Andheri RTO officials. Despite these efforts, the situation remains unchanged, with encroaching illegal businesses seemingly enjoying good facilities.
While some of the shacks have been demolished by RTO officials, an alarming 90 percent of these illegal structures still remain intact. Meanwhile, RTO officials are checking the new vehicles at this place.
