Mumbai: Bangur Nagar Police Recover Rs 30 Lakh Jewelry Left Behind in Rickshaw

Mumbai, 31st December 2024: After seven days of intensive efforts and reviewing footage from over 100 CCTV cameras stretching from Bangur Nagar to Borivali, the Bangur Nagar police successfully tracked down the auto-rickshaw and its driver. The rickshaw had been used by a woman passenger who accidentally left behind a jewellery bag valued at around Rs 30 lakh. The woman and her family were summoned to the police station yesterday, where the jewellery was returned to them.
Police sources revealed that the complainant, a Goregaon resident, had been temporarily storing her jewellery at her mother’s home in Gorai due to ongoing renovation work. On the day of the incident, she collected the jewellery and took it home. The bag was placed on the backseat of the rickshaw, and upon reaching her destination, she took out all her belongings but inadvertently left the jewellery behind.
Upon reporting the incident, an investigation was initiated. After seven days of thorough work, the rickshaw was traced to the Poisar area. It was discovered that after dropping off the woman, the driver had transported seven more passengers but had not noticed the forgotten bag.
The driver, who had been staying in a shared room, decided to keep the jewellery at his sister’s house for safekeeping after the room was deemed unsafe. He had been waiting for someone to contact him so he could return the valuables.
