Mumbai: BEST Expands Electric Double-Decker Fleet for Enhanced Commuter Comfort

Mumbai, 12th December 2023: In a move to prioritize passenger convenience and environmental sustainability, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) initiative has added 10 more electric double-decker air-conditioned buses to its fleet. These buses are now operational on the Kurla – Andheri and Agarkar Chowk (Andheri East) – Seepz Terminus routes, with officials expressing optimism about the positive impact on suburban commuters.

The decision to augment the fleet with air-conditioned electric double-decker buses was made to enhance the commuting experience for Mumbai citizens. The initiative, launched earlier this year, has gradually introduced these eco-friendly buses into the BEST fleet. On November 28, the BEST initiative greenlit the operation of 10 air-conditioned electric double-decker buses along the Kurla – Bandra – Kurla complex route. Subsequently, another 10 buses commenced operations between Bandra Bus Terminus and Kurla (West) Bus Stations on BEST Bus Route No. 310. As of Monday, these buses are now serving commuters on BEST Bus Route No. 332 (Kurla Bus Depot – Andheri East) and BEST Bus Route No. 415 (Agarkar Chowk – Seepz Terminus).

The inclusion of these buses aims to make the journeys of Mumbaikars more pleasant and comfortable. Currently, the BEST initiative operates 45 air-conditioned electric double-decker buses in South Mumbai and its suburbs. These buses are known for their eco-friendly features, contributing to reduced noise and air pollution. Additionally, amenities such as a mobile charging system, two automatic entrances, and CCTV cameras have been installed to enhance passenger convenience, according to officials from the BEST initiative.
