Mumbai: Blade-Wielding Suspect Injures Police Officer In Shocking Assault

Cuff Parade, 25th September 2023: A startling incident of stabbing a police sub-inspector with a blade transpired at the Cuff Parade area. The accused attacked the police officer when he went to arrest him. After the incident, police successfully incarcerated the accused and told that he was suffering from a mental illness.

The police sub-inspector who was injured in this incident is Rupesh Kumar Bhagwat, and he is currently posted at the Cuff Parade Police Station. Yesterday, he received the tip-off that the accused, Ghulam Mustafa Sheikh, was present at the World Trade Centre.

At that time, Bhagwat and his police staff reached the spot to apprehend the accused. However, upon learning of the police arrival, Sheikh took out the blade from him and started brandishing in the air, stymieing the police from advancing further.

However, undeterred, Bhagwat proceeded to apprehend Sheikh, where he received three to four injuries to his hand. The police subsequently detained the sheikh, registering a case of obstruction of government work and an attempt at assault on police against him.

It is learned that the accused have already been charged under five cases of murder, assault on police, the Narcotics Control Act, etc. Sources from the police informed that the accused is mentally unsound and has been admitted to the Central Psychiatric Hospital in Thane for treatment.
