Mumbai BMW Hit-and-Run: Accused Mihir Shah Admits Career Ruined, Confesses to Bar Visits Before Incident
Mumbai, 11th July 2024: Mihir Shah, the accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, reportedly admitted to police during interrogation that his career was effectively over due to the incident. Sources revealed that he also confessed to consuming alcohol at two different bars before the crash.
On July 7, Mihir Shah collided with a two-wheeler in Worli, resulting in the death of a 45-year-old woman riding pillion. He was apprehended on Tuesday after evading authorities for nearly three days.
Investigations have indicated that Mihir Shah was heavily intoxicated at the time of the BMW collision. Sources disclosed that he had consumed alcohol first at a bar in Juhu where he was socializing with friends before the incident.
Later, he visited another bar situated between Borivali and Malad. It was at this point that he purportedly decided to take control of the luxury car from the BMW driver, Rajrishi Bidawat.
Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah (aligned with the Eknath Shinde faction), was joyriding on Marine Drive on the day of the tragic incident.
Recently, both Mihir Shah and the BMW driver were escorted by police to Worli for the recreation of the crime scene.
Authorities have expressed scepticism regarding the full accuracy of the statements provided by both suspects, noting that these are currently under verification.
The luxury vehicle driven by Mihir Shah collided with the scooter from behind in Worli, leading to the fatal injury of Kaveri Nakhwa (45), who was riding as a passenger, while her husband Pradeep sustained injuries.
Despite being aware that the woman was trapped beneath the car’s wheel, Mihir Shah continued to drive recklessly without stopping, even as passing motorists urgently signalled for him to halt, according to an official statement on Wednesday.
The disturbing incident was captured by police CCTV cameras installed at Mela Junction and Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk in Worli.
After passing Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk, other motorists attempted to intervene and stop Mihir Shah’s vehicle, but he ignored their pleas and continued driving, according to the official.
Authorities plan to conduct a face-to-face confrontation between Bidawat and Mihir Shah to obtain further details about the collision and the sequence of events leading up to it.
In an attempt to evade detection, Mihir Shah reportedly altered his appearance by shaving his beard and trimming his hair. Authorities are investigating whether anyone assisted him in changing his appearance.
The 24-year-old suspect remains in police custody until July 16. He claims to possess a driving license, although the document has yet to be recovered, according to police sources.
Rajesh Shah, Mihir Shah’s father and a Shiv Sena politician from Palghar district, is also implicated in the case and is currently out on bail.
