Mumbai: Communist Party Organises Farmers’ March For Fulfilment Of Demands

Mumbai, 12th March 2023: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) organised a farmers’ and workers’ march from Dindori town in Maharashtra’s Nashik district to Mumbai on Sunday to call attention to the demands of these groups.

The “Long March” has been organised in response to demands for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for onions, a fair price for agricultural products, a waiver of electricity bills for farmers, prompt compensation for crop losses caused by unseasonal rains, and rights to forest land, according to the organisers.

They claimed that numerous tribe members and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) employees participated in the march.

The march, which began at noon from Dindori, about 25 kilometres outside Nashik City, is being led by former MLA J P Gavit.

Participants could be seen carrying red CPI(M) flags and banners with the message “Give MSP to Onions” printed on them. As a form of protest, the farmers spilt onions on the road.

The protesters will stop for the night on the ground in front of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) after they get to Nashik city, according to the organisers.

They stated that District Guardian Minister Dada Bhuse would speak with the march’s organisers and other participants this evening.
