Mumbai Customs Intercepts And Siezed 7.28 Kg Gold and 6 iPhones in Airport Crackdown

Mumbai, 26th February 2024: The Airport Commissionerate of Mumbai Customs Zone-III successfully intercepted and seized a staggering 7.28 kilograms of gold, valued at a whopping ₹3.9 crores on February 25-26, 2024 . This significant bust unfolded across 13 separate cases, shedding light on a sophisticated smuggling network.
The smugglers employed ingenious methods to conceal the gold, with Customs officials discovering the precious metal ingeniously hidden in everyday items. Shampoo bottles, lotion containers, bread spread jars, emergency lights, scrunchies, and even clothing worn by the individuals were utilized as deceptive cover for the illicit cargo.
The operation also uncovered a trail of deceit leading to the aviation sector, as gold was discreetly stashed behind the mirrors in the lavatories of aircraft. This revelation adds a layer of complexity to the smuggling network, suggesting a well-orchestrated operation with multiple players.
In addition to the gold seizure, Mumbai Customs Zone-III confiscated six iPhones, further highlighting the diversity of the illicit goods being transported. The iPhones, likely intended for sale in the black market, accentuate the high stakes involved in such smuggling operations.
