Mumbai Customs Seizes Over 20 kg of Gold and 4.98 kg of Ganja at Airport, Arrests Seven

Mumbai, 29th Jul 2024: Mumbai: Mumbai Customs has recently confiscated over 20.18 kg of gold, valued at more than ₹13 crore, along with 4.98 kg of ganja and foreign currency worth ₹0.96 crore at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Seven individuals were arrested in connection with these seizures.
According to an official statement on X, the Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, reported: “Between July 15 and 27, 2024, we seized over 20.18 kg of gold worth ₹13.11 crore, 4.98 kg of ganja, and forex valued at ₹0.96 crore across 39 cases. The gold was hidden in cardboard boxes and on and inside passengers’ bodies. Seven individuals were taken into custody.”
Earlier, in June, Mumbai Customs conducted a major operation in Taloja, leading to the seizure of a large quantity of contraband, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and tobacco/gutkha valued at over ₹10 crore. On June 25, approximately 10,000 kg of goods, equivalent to around 74 lakh sticks of cigarettes, were confiscated.
The Mumbai Customs statement on X noted: “On June 25, 2024, the Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone III, oversaw the destruction of 10,000 kg of seized cigarettes (approximately 74 lakh sticks), e-cigarettes, and tobacco/gutkha, valued at ₹10.60 crore, at the Mumbai Waste Management Limited facility in Taloja.”
