Mumbai Cyber Police Halts Financial Loss: Rs 79.37 Lakh Frozen in 24 Hours to Thwart Cybercrime

Mumbai, 1st December 2023: The Mumbai Cyber Police has successfully prevented a loss of Rs 79.37 lakh within 24 hours by utilizing the cyber helpline to address instances of cybercrime.
The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police initiated a helpline number, 1930, designed to freeze amounts cheated in cybercrimes affecting the citizens of Mumbai. Numerous complainants who fell victim to cyber fraud contacted the 1930 helpline on November 28, seeking assistance.
Upon receiving information from the helpline, police officers promptly engaged with the relevant banks, issuing instructions to freeze the amounts associated with the cybercrime complaints. As a result, a total of Rs 79.37 lakh across multiple cases was successfully frozen within a day.
The East Regional Cyber Police Station reported that Rs 32,16,768 from five complainants, along with Rs 79,37,116 from Joshi Marg Police Station complainants, had been safeguarded.
The Mumbai Police encourages citizens to contact the helpline immediately if they become victims of cyber fraud, emphasizing the importance of prompt reporting to mitigate financial losses.
