Mumbai: Dislodged Bearing on Saket Flyover Bridge Creates Traffic Hazard, Prompts Immediate Repairs
Mumbai, 24th August 2023: The Saket Flyover, a crucial bridge spanning Thane Bay along the Mumbai-Nashik highway, has encountered a significant issue as a part of its bearing became dislodged. This displacement has resulted in the bridge undergoing slight movement, raising concerns about potential traffic hazards and safety risks.
To address the situation promptly, authorities have implemented one-way traffic flow on the affected bridge immediately upon detecting its movement. Swiftly responding to the situation, officials from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough inspection of the bridge. Consequently, the decision to undertake the necessary repair work was made, with estimates suggesting that the repair process might span approximately eight days.
The alarming state of the bridge was first brought to public attention by a concerned citizen earlier today. Notably, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale was travelling from Mumbai to Nashik and took it upon himself to inspect the bridge himself, recognising the gravity of the situation.
Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police, Dr. Vinaykumar Rathod, also arrived at the site to assess the situation. Due to the evident damage, including a substantial crack in the bridge’s iron connection and the dislodgment of a bearing part, precautionary measures have been swiftly put into action. Barricades have been strategically placed, allowing traffic to resume, but only in a one-way manner, to avert any potential mishaps.
