Mumbai: East Indian Association Opposes Renaming Of Churchgate Station

Mumbai, 23rd February 2023: The Mumbai East Indian Association has opposed renaming Churchgate station of Western Railway. The Shinde faction, which got the party name Shiv Sena, had recently passed a resolution demanding that Churchgate station be named after former finance minister CD Deshmukh.

The national executive meeting of the Shinde group was held recently. Resolutions on important issues were approved in this meeting. A resolution was also approved to name Churchgate station after former finance minister CD Deshmukh. This resolution was opposed immediately. Watchdog Foundation and Mumbai East Indian Association have demanded that the name Churchgate has a history that should not be erased.

Pimenta Godfrey of the organization has expressed the opinion, “We have respect for CD Deshmukh; his name should be given elsewhere or on the ocean coast route.” The organization has advised that rather than changing the name of a place, facilities should be provided at that place and focus should be given to it. The organization has also demanded that the state government should focus on providing health facilities, improving the standard of living, and doing development work. Therefore, the issue of changing the name of Churchgate is likely to be discussed shortly.
