Mumbai: Expert Committee Inspects Malabar Hill Reservoir; Citizens Advised to Boil Water

Mumbai, 19th December 2023: In light of the ongoing consideration for the reconstruction of the Malabar Hill Reservoir, a committee of experts, including IIT Powai professors, local residents, and municipal officials, conducted a comprehensive inspection of Compartment No. 1 in Malabar Hill Reservoir yesterday. The inspection aimed to assess the current proposal and determine the most suitable course of action for the reconstruction project.

The internal inspection, spanning from 8 am to 10 am, involved the complete emptying of Compartment No. 1 of the reservoir. The expert committee meticulously reviewed the reservoir, marking the conclusion of the last phase of their visit.

However, this inspection resulted in a temporary disruption of water supply in certain areas of the city, specifically affecting Divisions A, C, and D. Residents in these divisions are advised that, due to the reservoir’s emptying process, there is a likelihood of receiving muddy water for a duration of one day (24 hours). In light of this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has urged citizens in the affected sections to filter and boil their water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

The expert committee is expected to analyze the gathered information and provide recommendations for the Malabar Reservoir reconstruction, ensuring the integrity of the water supply for the affected sections.
