Mumbai Faces Water Woes: 24-Hour Suspension in Kurla and Bhandup Due to Major Leak

Mumbai, 3rd January 2024: A significant water leak has been identified in a 900 mm diameter water line connection between Upper Vaitrana and Vaitrana at Powai Venturi, managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). To address this issue and prevent further leakage, urgent repair work is scheduled.
As a consequence, water supply will be temporarily suspended in Kurla and Bhandup for 24 hours on Thursday. Additionally, citywide areas will experience a 10 per cent reduction in water supply during this period.
The repair process involves emptying the main distribution channel stretching from the Bhandup complex to the Maroshi tunnel. This operation is set to commence at 10 am on Thursday, January 4th, and will continue for 24 hours until 10 am on Friday, January 5th. The impact of this maintenance work will affect the water supply in both the city and the eastern suburbs of Mumbai. Residents may experience lower water pressure in some areas during this period.
The 10 per cent reduction in water supply will be observed in regions spanning from Churchgate, Colaba, Tardeo, and Byculla to Worli, Dadar, Mahim and Bandra. Furthermore, the water supply will be completely halted in most areas of Bhandup on January 4th, from 12 noon to 4 pm. Any necessary changes to water timings will be implemented section-wise, considering the reservoir levels.
Authorities are urging residents to use water judiciously during this temporary disruption and appreciate the cooperation of the public in managing this essential maintenance work.
