Mumbai: FIR Filed Against Nesco Management and Security Guard for Preventing Dog Feeding, Leading to Deaths

Mumbai, 29th July 2024: A police complaint has been filed at Vanrai police station against two individuals following allegations by an animal welfare couple. The couple claims they were barred from feeding community dogs within the Nesc Compound at Goregaon, leading to the death of 26 dogs.

The FIR identifies one of the accused as a member of the management and the other as a security guard. No arrests have been made as of yet.

According to the complaint, the couple had been providing food to 35 to 40 community dogs inside the Nesco compound for over a year using their funds. However, they have been prevented from accessing the compound for the past three to four months, resulting in the dogs’ starvation. The couple also reported that their ambulance, which was meant to transport sick dogs to a veterinarian, was denied entry into the compound.

The FIR notes that on July 22, the Nesco management summoned the couple for a meeting, during which their photos were taken, and they were prohibited from feeding the dogs or entering the premises.

The PAL Foundation, an animal welfare group composed of lawyers, assisted the couple in filing the police complaint. The FIR is filed under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses the killing or maiming of animals.
