Mumbai: Maha Swachhta Abhiyan Launched for Citizens’ Health – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Takes Charge

Mumbai, 6th January 2024: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the initiation of the Maha Swachhta Abhiyan (Deep Cleaning Drive) in all major and minor cities across Maharashtra, following the successful implementation of the cleanliness campaign in Mumbai. The primary goal of this campaign, as emphasized by CM Shinde, is to enhance the health and well-being of citizens.

Chief Minister Shinde urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to prioritize regular cleaning in areas frequented by citizens for their ‘morning walk.’ Recognizing the importance of cleanliness in promoting good health, he highlighted the need to ensure that these public spaces are regularly cleaned and maintained.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde actively participated in the cleanliness drive organized by the BMC on January 6, 2024. During the inspection, he examined the proposed route for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mumbai and assessed the progress of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Project. The Chief Minister addressed the media, shedding light on the significance of the cleanliness drive and its role in promoting a healthier environment for citizens.

Several key officials and dignitaries joined Chief Minister Shinde during the cleanliness campaign tour, including Minister for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Mangal Prabhat Lodha, MLA Yamini Yashwant Jadhav, BMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal, and other high-ranking officials from various departments.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit Mumbai on January 12, 2024, Chief Minister Shinde inspected the areas through which the Prime Minister will pass and ensured that the cleanliness drive covers these locations as well. The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for regular cleaning, painting, and maintenance of public spaces, including bus stops, to create a clean and welcoming environment.

During the cleanliness drive, Chief Minister Shinde visited various locations, including the premises of INS Shikra in Colaba, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road, the Eastern Freeway, and Gadi Adda. He interacted with sanitation workers, suggested measures to control dust on roads, and directed Mumbai Traffic Police to address abandoned vehicles obstructing cleanliness efforts.
