Mumbai: Mamata Banerjee Questions Continuity of BJP-led Government, Cites Lack of Stability
Mumbai, 13th July 2024: Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, expressed doubts on Friday about the stability of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, suggesting it may not complete its term. Banerjee, after meetings with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar, made these remarks during a joint press conference with Thackeray.
“This government may not continue. It lacks stability,” she asserted. When questioned further, Banerjee cryptically remarked, “The game has begun, and it will continue.”
Banerjee emphasized the strength of the INDIA bloc and reaffirmed their stance on unity in diversity. She accused the BJP of leveraging power during the Lok Sabha elections to narrowly win several seats. “Even in Mumbai, BJP employed such tactics, leading to their ally’s candidate winning by a margin of just 48 votes,” she added.
Regarding the Centre’s decision to observe June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ in remembrance of the Emergency imposed in 1975, Banerjee criticized the Modi regime, stating that times reminiscent of the Emergency era are increasingly prevalent under his tenure.
“We do not support Emergency. While Indira Gandhi’s era saw a declared Emergency, in Modi’s regime, it feels like an undeclared emergency,” she remarked.
Banerjee also criticized the BJP for making unilateral decisions without consulting the opposition, highlighting what she perceives as a misuse of power during elections.
